Thunder Bay – Wildfire Update: The latest report from Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services confirms that no new wildland fires were recorded across the Northwest Region by Saturday evening.
Currently, 23 wildfires remain active in the region. Of these, 3 are under control, while the remaining 20 are being monitored as part of ongoing observation efforts.
Current Wildfire Hazard
The overall wildfire hazard across the Northwest Region is low, although localized areas of moderate to high riskremain:

Moderate risk persists along the Manitoba border, stretching into Woodland Caribou and Weeskayjahk Ohtahzhoganeeng Provincial Parks.

A secondary moderate-risk zone extends from Ingolf to Rainy Lake, with high hazard conditions particularly concentrated around the Fort Frances area.

Outdoor Burning: Know the Rules
As fall yard cleanup begins, residents are reminded to use alternatives to burning, such as composting or landfill disposal. If you must burn:

Burn only two hours before sunset and extinguish no later than two hours after sunrise.

Always have tools or water on hand to contain the fire.

Review and follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations before lighting any fire.
