TIMMINS – Wildfire Update – September 7, 2025 (6:00 PM EDT) –
The Northeast Region of Ontario remains wildfire-free today, with no new or active wildland fires reported as of Sunday evening. This marks continued progress in wildfire prevention and suppression efforts across the region.
Wildland Fire Hazard Outlook
The overall fire hazard is low throughout the Northeast Region, with a few exceptions:
-
Moderate risk zones near Temiskaming Shores and West Nipissing
-
A moderate to high hazard area in the southeasternmost section of the region
These localized zones may experience increased dryness and should be monitored closely. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant and proactive.

FireSmart: A Small Effort Makes a Big Difference
For homeowners and cottagers near forests, now is an ideal time to take part in FireSmart preparedness. These steps reduce the risk of fire damage in wildland-urban interface areas.
Quick actions include:
-
Removing dry leaves, branches, and brush from your yard
-
Clearing gutters and roofs of flammable debris
-
Storing firewood and propane tanks away from buildings
More helpful resources and how-to guides are available at Ontario.ca/firesmart.
Outdoor Burning Regulations Still Apply
Even in low hazard conditions, safe burning practices are critical to preventing human-caused wildfires. The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services branch reminds residents to:
-
Burn only between two hours before sunset and two hours after sunrise
-
Keep water and fire-control tools on hand
-
Opt for composting or landfill use whenever possible
Know the full rules by visiting the Outdoor Burning Regulations page.
How to Report a Wildland Fire
-
North of the French and Mattawa Rivers: Call 310-FIRE (3473)
-
South of those rivers: Dial 9-1-1 immediately

Why It Matters to Thunder Bay and Northern Communities
Although this report covers the Northeast Region, the weather and hazard trends may serve as early indicators for Northwestern Ontario. Thunder Bay residents who travel east or own property in the Northeast should stay updated. With fall approaching and conditions changing quickly, FireSmart efforts and safe outdoor burning remain top priorities across Ontario.
