KENORA – POLITiCS – This August, I’ve been honoured to take part in important local celebrations and discussions across northwestern Ontario.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of meeting many of you at the 43rd annual Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival. I also appreciated the opportunity to set up a booth at the Chamber’s Home and Trade Show. It was a great opportunity to chat with everyone who stopped by to discuss local priorities—priorities I’ll be taking back to Ottawa shortly when the House resumes in September.

I was glad to join our local partners in Thunder Bay this month, as part of my role as Shadow Minister for Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario.

I had a chance to sit down with the Matawa Education Department, which does important work to revitalize First Nations languages and identity in northern Ontario.

I also discussed the strength of First Nation communities in the region and economic opportunities with the Independent First Nations Alliance.

More recently, I had the opportunity to join North Star Air on the tarmac at their new hanger. North Star provides critical air services to northern Ontario. Local flights are crucial for our communities and provides a positive impact on accessibility and tourism in and around the area.

I also discussed many of these same issues with the Air Lines Pilots Association of Canada.

It was good to be back in Dryden for the 118th Dryden Fall Fair opening ceremonies. Despite the rainy weather, I was pleased to see everyone out in droves at the parade. Every year, this fair brings together families from across northwestern Ontario to celebrate our northern rural and agricultural roots.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors and organizers for the hard work they do day-in and day-out to make sure we can enjoy these events together.
