Youth Charged with Aggravated Assault After Reported Stabbing in Kasabonika Lake

Adult male treated at nursing station; 17-year-old released on conditions following bail hearing

KASABONIKA LAKE FIRST NATION – REGIONAL CRIME NEWS – A youth has been charged with aggravated assault after a reported stabbing in Kasabonika Lake First Nation on Thursday night, Aug. 21.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) officers from the Kasabonika Lake Detachment were called about an assault that had recently occurred. Police say two people were involved in an altercation when a third person—a youth—became involved.

During the incident, an adult male sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.

The victim was taken to the community nursing station for assessment and treatment. T

he injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

During the investigation, officers identified a suspect. A 17-year-old female from Kasabonika Lake First Nation was arrested without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault.

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on Friday, Aug. 22, and was released with conditions. A future court date has been set.

The identity of the youth is withheld under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
