Markham driver stopped for second “warn range” suspension while crossing into Canada

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – On August 17, 2025, at approximately 1:37 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the Pigeon River Border Crossing on Highway 61 after reports of a possible impaired driver entering Canada from the United States.

With assistance from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), officers determined the driver, a 55-year-old man from Markham, Ontario, had been consuming alcohol. Following further roadside testing, the individual registered in the “warn range” for blood-alcohol levels.

As a result, he was issued a seven-day driver’s licence suspension.

This is the second time the individual has faced such a penalty. His first “warn range” infraction resulted in a three-day suspension.

  • Second offence: 7-day licence suspension

  • Vehicle impoundment: Possible for repeat occurrences

  • Mandatory education/treatment programs: Required after multiple suspensions
