Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 17 Near Ignace Claims Life of U.S. Rider

IGNACE, ON – A 60-year-old man from Kentucky, USA, has died following a single-vehicle motorcycle collision on Highway 17, west of Ignace.

The tragic incident occurred shortly before noon on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Ilsley Township. According to reports, the motorcyclist was travelling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the eastbound lane and entered the ditch.

Emergency services, including the Ignace Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and paramedics, responded swiftly. Despite efforts, the rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The OPP’s North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team was brought in to support the investigation. As a result, Highway 17 was fully closed between Highway 622 and the town of Ignace for several hours, impacting regional traffic along this key Trans-Canada route.
