No injuries reported as occupants evacuate safely; TBFR reminds residents of fire safety essentials
THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded swiftly to reports of smoke at a residential bungalow on Royal Street just after 12:28 p.m. on August 2, 2025.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the basement. The occupants had already evacuated the home safely before crews arrived.
The first team to enter the residence confirmed the presence of smoke in the basement and quickly deployed water lines to suppress and extinguish the fire. Crews then initiated positive pressure ventilation to clear smoke from the home. A thorough search of the property verified that no one else was inside at the time of the incident.
In total, six Pumpers, one Aerial Ladder, and the Command vehicle were dispatched to the scene as part of the coordinated emergency response.
🔥 Fire Safety Reminder
Following the incident, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue issued a reminder to the public:
“Working smoke detectors and a regularly practiced fire escape plan are essential to ensuring the safety of your family in the event of a fire at home.”
TBFR urges all residents to ensure smoke alarms are properly installed and maintained on every level of their homes — especially near sleeping areas — and to routinely review emergency evacuation plans with all household members.
