Body Discovered Near Mahkwa Road in Frenchman’s Head Community
LAC SEUL FIRST NATION, ON – Regional News – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed they are investigating a suspicious death in the community of Frenchman’s Head, located within Lac Seul First Nation.
The investigation began shortly after midnight on Thursday, July 31, 2025, when officers responded to a call on Mahkwa Road. Upon arrival, police located the body of an individual, and authorities quickly deemed the death suspicious.
The OPP Sioux Lookout Crime Unit is leading the investigation alongside the Lac Seul Police Service, under the oversight of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Officials from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) are also involved. A postmortem examination is scheduled to take place at the OFPS facility in Toronto.
Residents of Frenchman’s Head will notice an ongoing increased police presence in the area, particularly along Mahkwa Road, as investigators gather evidence and follow leads.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Community members are encouraged to report any details, no matter how minor they may seem, as they could significantly aid investigators.
