NIPIGON – July 29, 2025 | NetNewsLedger Regional Crime Report – A 49-year-old Nipigon resident is facing impaired driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police observed a vehicle leaving a local establishment in an aggressive and dangerous manner.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 28, an officer from the Nipigon OPP Detachment was patrolling Highway 11/17 near the Town of Nipigon when they saw a vehicle spinning its tires and accelerating rapidly from a local business.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. A roadside test using an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver failed.
The individual was arrested on the spot and transported to the Nipigon detachment for additional testing.
Charges Laid Against Nipigon Resident
Shawn JAROLI, 49, of Nipigon, Ontario, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol or drug

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
As a result of the arrest:

Jaroli’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days

The vehicle was impounded for seven days
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon on a future date.
OPP Reaffirms Commitment to Road Safety
The OPP continues to emphasize that impaired driving poses a significant threat to public safety and will be met with strict enforcement.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 immediately,” said the OPP in a release.
