Deer Lake, ON – Regional News — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has officially invoked its mandate to investigate an incident involving officers from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) stationed at the Deer Lake First Nation detachment.
The incident occurred during the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22, when NAPS officers responded to a call for service. During the response, an adult male sustained injuries following an interaction with police.
As required by law, the SIU has assumed responsibility for investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. As such, NAPS will not be releasing further details, and all inquiries are being directed to the SIU.
No Ongoing Threat to Public Safety
Authorities have confirmed that there is no active threat to public safety stemming from the incident. However, community members in Deer Lake should expect a heightened and ongoing police presence as investigators conduct their work in the area.
