KENORA – REGIONAL Weather – Get set for smoke. Wildfires are going to impact the region today as the smoke has triggered an Air Quality Alert.
Residents across Kenora, Whitedog First Nation, Grassy Narrows, and the Lake of the Woods region are waking up to smoky skies and an active Air Quality Warning, as wildfire smoke continues to sweep into the area.
Environment Canada warns that poor air quality and reduced visibility may persist through Thursday, posing health risks for vulnerable populations and disrupting outdoor activities.
In addition to the smoke, the region will experience warm and humid conditions with highs reaching the mid-20s to high 20s over the next few days.

Weather Trivia
Did you know?
The Kenora region has historically experienced wildfire smoke events during the summer months due to its proximity to boreal forests. In July 2021, thick wildfire smoke blanketed parts of Northwestern Ontario for weeks, causing AQHI values to spike into the “Very High Risk” category and leading to multiple air quality warnings. These events are becoming more frequent due to climate change-driven shifts in wildfire behavior.
