THUNDER BAY – WILDFIRE UPDATE (July 7, 2025 – 18:06 CDT): Fire activity continues to intensify across Northwestern Ontario, with six new wildland fires confirmed since the last update and the total number of active fires rising to 47, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).

Size: 1.0 hectare

Location: ~2.9 km west of Alphonse Bay, Caribou Lake; ~21 km northwest of Armstrong

Status: Now under control

A quick response brought this small fire under control, reducing its risk to nearby wilderness areas and isolated structures.

Size: 0.5 hectare

Location: ~16.8 km north of Kagianagami Lake, near Kellow Lake

Status: Being held
-
Crews are continuing to secure fire lines on this small, northern fire, which remains stable at present.

Location: Near Flanagan River, west of North Spirit Lake First Nation

The fire was quickly extinguished and declared out.
