Second Degree Murder Charge Laid in Greenstone Death Investigation

GREENSTONE – REGIONAL CRIME REPORT – UPDATE #1 – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Greenstone Detachment has laid a second degree murder charge following a suspicious death investigation in the Municipality of Greenstone.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a medical emergency.

One individual was transported to hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Brandin RITCH, 32 years old, of Greenstone.

Charges Laid

Following an investigation led by the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and supported by multiple specialized units, Alexis AGGAMWAY, 19 years old, of Greenstone, was arrested and charged with:

  • Second Degree MurderCriminal Code of Canada, Section 235(1)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay and is currently remanded in custody.

What Second Degree Murder Means

Under Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code, a conviction for second degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no eligibility for parole for at least 10 years. The precise parole ineligibility period is determined by the court and can be up to 25 years, depending on the circumstances of the case.

Second degree murder is defined as an intentional killing that is not premeditated, but still deliberate and unlawful.

Investigation Continues

The investigation is ongoing, led by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with support from:

  • Office of the Chief Coroner

  • Ontario Forensic Pathology Service

  • OPP Forensic Identification Services

  • OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT)

Police have not released further details regarding the nature of the incident or any potential motive at this time.
