Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your chosen field?

Growing up in a blue-collar area in Oregon, surrounded by mills and factories, I found myself thrust into the working world early as a single parent. My job at the Albany Papermill introduced me to the grueling reality of long, rotating shifts.

Fascinated by managing my 401k, I dove into learning about the markets, networking with investors, and eventually found my niche in investing. This journey led me to leave the mill, work in options education, and start my own company, focusing on investing directly for people.

Can you share a defining moment that shaped your career?

Two years after leaving the papermill, it shut down, prompting a career epiphany. I yearned for a stable career that I loved, one that would withstand political shifts and allow me to assist people in achieving good returns in the marketplace.

How would you describe your personal and professional values?

I strive for balance, avoiding overcommitment in any single area or getting swayed by trends. Professionally, I maintain a similar approach, aiming for long-term positioning in both life and the market, preparing for inevitable changes.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Focus on relationships over material possessions. Work, drink, and spend less; call your parents more. Slow down, as everything will turn out fine. Invest time in relationships rather than spending money on people.

How do you manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance to ensure overall well-being?

I find solace in the cyclical nature of seasons, as Jim Rohn described, reminding myself that change is constant. Patience, positivity, and preparation for future opportunities are key. Regular exercise, good sleep, and continuous learning are my foundations for well-being.

Who is the one entrepreneur or business leader that you consider to be your greatest example and inspiration?

I’ve been fortunate to encounter several role models, like Jim Hopper and Warren Buffett, who’ve imparted wisdom on investing and life. Their collective advice on patience and seizing the right opportunities has been invaluable.

Are there any charitable organizations or community service-oriented activities that you are involved in?

What was the worst job you ever had, and what did you learn from it?

At 17, I worked at a motorhome company amidst challenging conditions. The experience taught me that wasn’t the life I wanted, reinforcing my determination for something better.
