OTTAWA – OPINION – Canadians are growing tired of Liberal hypocrisy.

They love to present themselves as proud defenders of pluralism, often stating that Canada has no place for hatred or intolerance. But they stand idly by while their Members of Parliament hand out awards to individuals guilty of inciting anti-Semitism.

Just a few weeks ago, Liberal MP Iqra Khalid presented an official award to Amin El-Maoued, the public relations chief for Palestine House – an organization that lost its federal funding back in 2012 because of “its pattern of support for extremism.” Mr. El-Maoued is notorious for leading a rally in 2017 where people chanted slogans like “Israel and Hitler are the same”.

Shockingly enough, this was the third time this Liberal MP gave an award to Mr. El-Maoued, despite being warned about his reputation by concerned advocacy groups. This Liberal MP only rescinded the award after she was caught.

Canadians are left to wonder: what side is the Liberal government on? Why do they keep associating with extremists?

Canada’s Conservatives know that this is wrong. We will work hard to make sure everyone feels at home in our country.

Sincerely,

The Hon. Peter Kent, MP

Shadow Minister of Ethics

Member of Parliament for Thornhill
