Woodstock Man Faces Multiple Charges

THUNDER BAY – Police responded to a 911 call asking for assistance at a business located in the 300 block of Water Street just after 9:00 a.m. on August 13, 2018.

Officers arrived to find a male being held on the ground who had been apprehended for being in a staff member’s Jeep in the parking lot. Police continued with the arrest and struggled to get the male into custody. While loading him into the police cruiser, officers determined that he required medical attention for a possible drug-related issue. The male was escorted to the hospital for medical attention.

The follow-up investigation revealed that the male had stolen a truck from the Banning Street area around 9:00 a.m. and drove it to the Water Street location where he exited the stolen truck and was observed going into a Jeep. The owner of the Jeep was assaulted by the male while trying to restrain him prior to police arrival.

The 31-year-old male from Woodstock, Ontario was transported to the police station around 5:30 p.m. after receiving medical attention.

He will appear in court this morning charged with:

· Theft of Motor Vehicle
· Operate Motor Vehicle While Impaired
· Assault with a Weapon
· Assault
· Assault Peace Officer
· Theft Under $5000
