ATTAWAPISKAT – WEATHER – Hot weather conditions are in the forecast for Attawapiskat. A Heat Warning is in effect.

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Attawapiskat

A heat episode is expected today and Thursday. High temperatures will be near 30 degrees with overnight lows dropping to near 18 degrees. Humidity will also be a factor with humidex values in the low to mid thirties both days.

The heat episode will come to an end Friday morning with the passage of a cold front according to Environment Canada.

Heat illnesses are preventable.

While heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for
– older adults;
– infants and young children;
– people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses;
– people who work in the heat;
– people who exercise in the heat;
– homeless people; and
– people without access to air conditioning.

Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.

Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
