Busy Night for Fire Rescue

THUNDER BAY – At approximately 12:30 EDT this morning Thunder Bay Fire rescue responded to a report of a sawdust bin on fire at the Resolute sawmill on Darrel Ave. The first arriving unit found a sawdust bin heavily involved in fire. A second alarm was initiated and crews worked for about four hours to contain the fire. An aerial ladder was used to soak the material in the bin after firefighters climbed to the top to open access hatches.

Resolute staff members were key in getting the hydraulics to work after they were compromised by the intense heat. Once the bin was dumped on the ground the remainder of the fire was quickly extinguished.

There were no injuries and damage was limited to the single bin.

Firefighters also responded to a vehicle fire on Hardisty Street where a pickup was found to be on fire. This fire was quickly extinguished and police are investigating its circumstances.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue also responded to an apparent false alarm on May Street last night at 01:40 EDT. Three units responded to the call.
