Big Green CleanKENORA – The town of Kenora is getting ready to green up for spring. Kenora has held a city-wide spring clean-up and beautification event for the past 5 years. These events have been such a huge success that the city is continuing with the event and have greatly expanded the initiative.

The town shares, “We are looking at all businesses, schools, service clubs, churches and committees to participate in the BIG GREEN CLEAN OF 2012. This year the event will be a week-long event from May 21st and winding up on May 26th. The official weigh in day and celebration of the week’s success will be on Saturday the 26th under the new tent. We will have an environmental fair, City environmental equipment display, entertainment, Triple Play charity barbeque, award presentations and much more”.

Kenora will also hold a challenge in the following categories: One person who consistently cleans all year School Challenge for school participation Funniest thing found when cleaning Family award – families who register by calling City Hall at 467-2000 or the day of the event.

There will be prizes for each category including a $100 Boston Pizza gift card for the family award, a trophy for the winning school and more! Awards will be given out during the entertainment under the tent at 1:00 p.m. (26th)

New to the 2012 event will be a “trunk sale”. Bring your goods that would otherwise be going to the landfill and give away or sell your treasures right from the trunk of your car in the South Harbourfront parking lot! Registration for space can be booked by calling 467-2000. There is no cost for the event, but space is limited and it will sell out fast!

This is a take-ownership and civic pride event. The more groups and individuals that we have participate the better our community will look. Take pride in where you live and PARTICIPATE!

You can pick up your clear community clean up bag from the Transfer Station or City Hall when you are ready to start. You can choose any area of the City that you would like to clean such as a park, sidewalk, the block around your house, etc. Just drop off your bags of litter at the event on Saturday where we will weigh and sort the garbage collected. You may also leave it curbside for regular garbage pickup by City crews.

Kenora invites your group or organization to participate in this worth-while event. For further information visit the Kenora portal at www.kenora.ca for full details and learn how you can help your community with this annual community pride project!
