Flash Freeze Warning Issued by Environment Canada for Thunder Bay Region

Weather AlertTHUNDER BAY – Environment Canada is reporting that “A sharp cold front from an Alberta clipper tracking across Northern Ontario has passed through Thunder Bay and will reach Geraldton early this evening then move southeast through Kapuskasing and Wawa later this evening”.

The weather service advises, “Rain is forecast ahead of and along the sharp front setting the stage for a potential flash freeze tonight. The rain will change to snow in Thunder Bay, Geraldton, and Nipigon early this evening and in Kapuskasing and Wawa near midnight. During this changeover from rain to snow, untreated surfaces may become icy.

Snowfall amounts near 2 cm are expected in many areas by Thursday morning. Motorists should be prepared for a sudden deterioration of driving conditions beginning this evening as temperatures drop. Untreated roads may become icy and slippery.
