The Lakehead University women’s volleyball team went 1-1

SUPERIOR, WI – The Lakehead University women’s volleyball team went 1-1 against their American competition at the Stinger Classic Women’s Volleyball tournament.

Bethel U Tough Start For Lakehead

What started off well for the LU squad turned sour in a hurry, as Lakehead dropped their first match of the tournament to Bethel University (St. Paul, MN) in four sets (25-15, 13-25, 14-25, 11-25).

Leading Lakehead was Jorie Daymond with 14 points (12 kills, 2 aces) and 12 digs. Setter Sara Hudson contributed 27 assists on 115 attempts (23.5 %).

Nicole Wriedt had 13 kills for Bethel and setter Kate Smith served up 31 assists on 83 attempts (37.3 %)

Got the ‘W’ Against Augsburg

Their win came against Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN) by a score of 3-2 (18-25, 25-12, 17-25, 27-25, 15-9). This match was played shortly after their loss to Bethel U.

For Lakehead Jorie Daymond had 22 points (20 kills, 2 aces) to go with 12 digs and Michelle Cournoyer had 12 points (10 kills, 1 ace, 1 block) in the win. Sara Hudson had 32 assists and 14 digs.

Augsburg’s Colleen Ourada had 15 kills, while setter Shelby Vogel had 41 assists and 14 digs.

Coach Chris Green was unavailable following the games for comment.

Action continues tomorrow as Lakehead will play the respective teams from St. Catherine’s and Finlandia’s Universities.
