THUNDER BAY – The 4th Annual North of Superior Karaoke Idol Competition, hosted by The Hodder Tavern and City Wide Sound, sponsored by Dougall Media Rock 94.3FM, NetNewsLedger, and Shaw TV is being held at the Hodder Tavern every Thursday night!

The ten week competition began on Thursday October 6, 2011 at 9PM at the Hodder Tavern and the finale will be held on Thursday December 8th, 2011.

The finale will feature a variety of local entertainers as well as the final three competitors will battle for the title of Karaoke Idol and cash prize of $2500.00 for first place, $1000.00 for second place and $500.00 for third place.

From Thunder Bay’s most talented we have been able to find our previous year’s winners Shane Comeau, Justin Stolz, and Stephenie Stirrup. They have all shown us their amazing talents, personalities, and stage presence in order to take the title of Karaoke Idol.

This year, 28 new contestants take the stage performing songs from weekly themes varying from 80’s week, Broadway, and R&B, just to name a few. But for this competition to be a success, we need the help of the public. Every Thursday night at the Hodder Tavern, our competitors will sing and be critiqued by three judges. After everyone has performed, the public will have their chance to vote for their favorite performer. That’s right! You chose our Idol! Some of the perks to being in our audience are:

  • Voting for your favorite performer,
  • Everyone who votes has a chance to win a weekly prize (must be in attendance),
  • Being able to participate in weekly 50/50 draws in support of this year’s charity The Regional Food Distribution Association.

The Regional Food Distribution Association’s mission is to “Let no one go hungry in our midst.” The RFDA emerged from a vision – for improved coordination of food delivery to food banks and feeding programs. The dream has evolved and now includes:

  • accessing all food sources available for distribution and better coordinating the collective efforts of stakeholders to better meet the need.
  • providing knowledge of government programs to educate the public with regard to issues of food banks and poverty
  • providing training to member agencies on safe food handling and to community members to enhance skills, abilities for daily living, community functioning and job readiness.

The RFDA has succeeded in becoming a “food bank for food banks”. It accesses food from the public and local businesses and as a designated hub through the National Food Share System, and supplies products to 29 food banks or feeding programs in Northwestern Ontario. Twenty of these programs are in the City of Thunder Bay; others are located in Marathon, Schreiber, Nipigon, Greenstone, Kakabeka, Dryden, Ignace, and Atikokan (Regional Food Distribution Association 2011; www.foodbanksnothwest.ca).

The North of Superior Karaoke Idol Competition and our sponsors would like to do our part by supporting the RFDA. If you bring in a non-perishable food item you will be given an extra ticket to vote for your favorite performer.

You can also listen to Rock 94.3 FM, for a chance to win weekly gift certificates to Frank’s on Hodder. Every winner of this gift certificate and winner of the weekly prize from The Hodder will be put into a Grand Prize Draw, for a chance to win a “Night on the Town,” which will include, limo service from your home provided by Prestige Limousine, dinner for two and a VIP experience at the Hodder Tavern for the 4th Annual North of Superior Karaoke Idol Finale on Thursday December 8, 2011 where you will experience a variety of live entertainment from local bands and your Karaoke Idol winner will be announced.

Live the experience! It’s always Hotter at the Hodder!
