MONTREAL – Sports – The Montreal Canadiens got their first win for new coach Dominique Ducharme in a 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.
Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry scored power-play goals 2:04 apart in the second period, and Carey Price made 26 saves for Montreal (10-6-5).
Montreal had had lost five straight games making Gingoogaming Hab’s fan Peter Rasevych frustrated as Leafs fans were starting what he thought was too much celebrating.
“We’re happy, obviously, not satisfied,” said Price after the game. “Definitely very happy for coach and [new assistant Alexandre Burrows]. You know, they’ve both been working really hard and I’m sure that they’re pretty happy tonight and proud.”
WINNIPEG – SPORTS – Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler each scored a goal with two assists, and Mark Scheifele had three assists for the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.
Laurent Brossoit made 31 saves for the Jets (14-7-1), who split the back-to-back set following a 4-0 loss here Monday.
“That was really, really good tonight,” stated a satisfied coach Paul Maurice. “[We were] driving pucks to the net, thinking shot first, and there was a lot more chaos around their net that we haven’t seen from our team. There was lots of direct play with the mindset of pucks to the net.”
