WINNIPEG – Sports – The Winnipeg Jets scored three first-period goals in a solid game to take a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Trevor Lewis and Derek Forbort each scored his first goal with the Jets (6-3-1), and Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves, 15 of those stops in the third period.
“Obviously [Brossoit] was huge back there for us,” says Lewis. “He made some great stops, but we also made it tough for them to get into the zone … getting in lanes and blocking shots is huge and getting those clears when we can.”
Johnny Gaudreau had an assist to extend his point streak to nine games, and Matthew Tkachuk scored two goals for the Flames (4-4-1). David Rittich made 25 saves in his second loss in as many starts this season.
Canucks vs Canadiens
MONTREAL – SPORTS – Montreal returned to winning ways asTyler Toffoli scored twice and took the NHL scoring lead with his ninth goal of the season. The Montreal Canadiens beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-3 on Tuesday.
Toffoli’s two goals came in 3:18 during the second period after Josh Anderson scored twice in 3:07 in the first for the Canadiens (7-1-2), who are 4-0-1 against Vancouver, including a 6-2 win here Monday.
Jake Allen made 36 saves.
Eight of Toffoli’s nine goals have been scored in the five games against the Canucks; he scored six in 10 games with Vancouver last season after he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 17, 2020. The forward signed a four-year contract with the Canadiens on Oct. 12.
“It’s just fun out there right now, and we’re just doing so well as a team and all the guys are getting along great,” Toffoli said. “So hopefully we can stick with it and stay together and keep getting better every single day, and that’s what we’re trying to do. I think we’re on the right path right now.”
Senators vs Oilers
EDMONTON – SPORTS – Jesse Puljujarvi scored his first two NHL goals in more than two years for the Edmonton Oilers to lead the Oilers to a 4-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Connor McDavid had two assists to extend his multi-point streak to six games.
Mikko Koskinen made 23 saves in the net for Edmonton (6-6-0).
The Oilers are now on a three game winning streak.
“I’ve been talking to [Puljujarvi] quite a bit. He’s such a good kid,” said Oilers coach Dave Tippett. “It’s great to see him get on the board. He’s one of our top guys being around, not just getting chances himself, but being able to create chances for other people, so you’d like to see him get rewarded for that work. Tonight, he got rewarded for it.”
