CALGARY – SPORTS – The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to keep the dream alive. Mitchell Marner scored at 12:14 of the third to move the Maple Leafs onto victory drive with the team’s third straight win. The Calgary Flames were doused 4-3 at the Saddledome Tuesday.

Marner one-timed a pass from Auston Matthews to score.

This was Marner’s fifth multi-point game this season. Marner has scored six points (two goals, four assists) in his past three games. Marner is tied with the Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid in the NHL scoring race with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) through eight games.

Post game, Marner said “I’ve really been working on that shot with Matthews”. I think if I can try to find that spot more, I know can find me there. For me, it was just trying to get it off my stick quickly and on to the net for a chance on net for a rebound or something to go in, which it did. I’m trying to get more a shot mentality in there, trying to be more of a threat, and it was a great dish and it was a big goal.”

Jets Top Oilers

Nikolaj Ehlers scored one goal and had three assists to lead the Winnipeg Jets past the Edmonton Oilers in a 6-4 win at Bell MTS Place.

Andrew Copp had two goals and two assists, and Adam Lowry had a goal and two assists for the Jets (5-2-0), who have a two game split with Edmonton following a 4-3 loss Sunday.

Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves in the net.

“I feel like I’ve expanded my game,” say Copp, “I haven’t really tried to change it too much, but I’ve tried to increase my offensive output, make a few more plays, be a little more crisp, execute, and it kind of came to fruition tonight. The puck has been going in. We’ve had a lot of chances though. I feel like we could have had more.”

Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid each had a goal and an assist, and Darnell Nurse had three assists for the Oilers (3-5-0).

Mikko Koskinen made 27 saves in his eighth straight start.
