VANCOUVER – SPORTS – It was a 7-1 beating for the Ottawa Senators at the hands of a hungry Vancouver Canuck team in NHL hockey action on Monday night.
Brandon Sutter scored his first ever NHL hat trick, leading the Vancouver Canucks over the Ottawa Senators in the first game of a three-game set at Rogers Arena Monday.
Thatcher Demko made 35 saves for his first win of the season and Olli Juolevi, the No. 5 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, scored his first NHL goal for the Canucks (3-5-0), who won for the second time in their past seven games.
Sutter, a 31-year-old forward, entered the NHL in 2008-09 with the Carolina Hurricanes. The hat trick came in his 735th game. “It only took me 13 years to get one,” he said. “I was pretty pumped. You never know if you’re going to get one as you get older.”
Austin Watson scored, and Matt Murray made 28 saves in the losing cause for the Senators (1-4-1), who have gone five straight without a victory (0-4-1).
