THUNDER BAY – Entertainment – Fans of Halloween both big and small will welcome the return of the Haunted Fort Night and Kids’ Halloween Hoot at Fort William Historical Park (FWHP) this October.
Both events are designed for specific age groups. The Haunted Fort Night is aimed at ages 12 and up while the family-oriented Kids’ Halloween Hoot is geared for kids younger than 12. The Fort Night has been virtually sold-out since its inception 17 years ago. This marks the second year for the Kids’ Halloween Hoot
The Fort Night’s sinister scenario this season finds William’s Town haunted by a ghostly young woman, who threatens to drive the inhabitants mad with her terrifying nightmares. Evening tours will wind their way through the dark and brooding Fort, encountering mysterious characters and sinister happenings, while shrieks and gun shots erupt out of the inky blackness of night.
The Kids’ Halloween Hoot, meanwhile, features friendly witches and ghouls who will preside over plenty of games, crafts, and activities that offer lots of treats, providing a safe alternative to trick and treating. The kiddies may enjoy their own share of giddy scares in a few buildings where laughing skeletons and other creatures might pop out of the shadows.
Volunteer support has been crucial to the success of the Haunted Fort Night. This is an ideal opportunity for high school students to fulfill their community hours. Volunteer groups are also welcome. Interested parties are invited to call the Fort at (807) 473-2344 to volunteer.
The Haunted Fort Night is happening every Thursday to Sunday evening throughout October with tours running from 7:00 to 10:30 pm. With limited capacity for each tour, reservations are required. Just over 20 tours are available nightly. Please call 473-2344 to reserve. Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular nights, so it is best to book in advance to avoid disappointment. Admission is $15.00 for all patrons.
The Kids’ Halloween Hoot will run every Saturday and Sunday afternoon throughout the month from noon to 5:00 p.m. No advance reservations are required for the daytime event. Admission is $5 for adults, $10 for youths age 6-12, and free for kids age 5 and under.
