Extreme Cold Warnings – Frostbite in Minutes

Thunder Bay – WEATHER – Extreme Cold Warnings are out across the entire region of Western Ontario. In the Northern region, only Peawanuck and Attawapiskat are outside of the Extreme Cold Warnings.

From the west, in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba frigid Arctic weather is impacting people, and livestock along with pets.

The cold spot in Ontario is -36.9 °C or -34.4 °F in Atikokan.

School Buses Cancelled or Delayed

Northwestern Ontario Student Services Consortium report: Monday, February 8 – Please be advised that all buses will be cancelled for the day due to extreme cold weather.

Lakehead Student Transportation Services report: Student Transportation is Scheduled to Run, However, Due to Weather and/or Road Conditions, Bus Delays May Occur or Some Roads May Not Be Able To Be Serviced.

In Thunder Bay School Crossing Guards are not working today due to the extreme cold.

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected. Extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 45 this morning and tonight.

There will be some improvement during the afternoon as temperatures warm slightly, before temperatures fall again in the evening. The extreme cold may continue for the remainder of this week with wind chill values approaching minus 40 each night.

Thunder Bay Weather Outlook

It is currently -28 in Thunder Bay heading to a daytime high of -20 under clear skies. The windchill is -40 this morning and will be -30 this afternoon. Winds will becoming west 20 km/h this morning.

Tonight, the forecast is calling for clear skies with an overnight low of -31. Winds will be west 20 km/h becoming light early this evening. The low overnight will be -31. The wind chill will be -30 this evening and -40 overnight.

Greenstone – Geraldton Weather Update

It is -31 this morning in Geraldton. The high today will be -23. The windchill is at -42 this morning, and will be -31. Winds will be west 20 km/h this morning. Frostbite in minutes.

Tonight will see clear skies and a low of -33.. Winds up to 15 km/h. 33. Wind chill -32 this evening and -43 overnight.

Sandy Lake Weather Outlook

It is -35 in Sandy Lake to start the morning. There will be increasing cloudiness with a 30 percent chance of flurries this afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h near noon. -27 will be the daytime high. The wind chill is at -48 this morning and -39 this afternoon.

Tonight, will see mainly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries. Winds will be west 20 km/h becoming light late this evening. Low will be -30 with the wind chill near -41.

Kenora and Lake of the Woods

The temperature is -36 in Kenora with a wind chill value at -48 this morning. Winds will be southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 this morning. The high -27 with a wind chill of -39 this afternoon.

Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy. Winds will be southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. The low overnight will be -31. The wind chill near -44.
