Police Investigating Sudden Death in Couchiching First Nation

COUCHICHING FIRST NATION, ON – On December 25, 2020, members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by Treaty Three Police in regards to a suspicious death on Couchiching First Nation. Police along with Rainy River District EMS responded to a residence on Rainy Lake Boulevard for a report of a domestic assault with a weapon. Police attended the scene and located three victims with superficial injuries as well as an unresponsive 41 year-old. The 41 year old was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Randall MORRISON of Big Grassy First Nation.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death has been initiated by the Treaty Three Police with the assistance of the Rainy River District OPP under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Also working in conjunction with the investigation include the OPP Forensic Identification Services, North West Region Crime Unit, North West Region Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

A post-mortem is scheduled to be conducted this week in Toronto to help identify the cause of death. Any person with information regarding this investigation should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at .1-888-310-1122
