Thunder Bay – LIVING – The City of Thunder Bay is extending outdoor burning limits.

Starting on December 17, 2020, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will extend the outdoor burning hours from 12 pm to 12am daily until May 1, 2021. The current outdoor burning hours are 5 pm to 12 am daily.

“The outdoor burning hours were extended to allow families to enjoy time outside during the day while it is still light out,” said Fire Chief Greg Hankkio. “Outdoor burning permits are still required, and all permit rules and regulations still apply.”

Hankkio says that during the current pandemic, recommendations from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit on outdoor gatherings should still be followed.

Fire Stations are closed to the public due to the Covid-19 emergency so permits can only be renewed and applied for online. Permit rules and regulations are strictly enforced and failure to obtain a permit or follow the permit rules will result in prosecution and fine.
