Thunder Bay Police Investigating Dawson Street Homicide

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police are now investigating the city’s seven homicide of 2020.

Police responded to a residential address in the 300 block of Dawson Street following reports of a serious assault just before 2 pm EDT on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the address due to reports of an individual having sustained serious, and possibly life-threatening, injuries.

When officers arrived they located a female who appeared to be the victim of a recent assault.

Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shortly after arriving on scene officers located and arrested a suspect, a 21-year-old woman, and transported her to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The case is being treated as a homicide.
Both victim and accused were known to one another.

The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court on Saturday, June 20, 2020, and is expected to face homicide charges. Police are withholding the identity of the accused until charges are sworn in by the courts.

No other details are known at this time.

A police presence is likely to remain in the area as the investigation continues.
