Fort Frances Man Faces Impaired by Drug Charges

FORT FRANCES, ON – Shortly before 6:00 pm on February 7, 2020 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a complaint of erratic driving that lead a member of the public to believe the driver was impaired. Officers conducted a traffic stop and conducted an investigation. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. It was suspected that the driver was under the influence of a drug.

The driver was transported to the Fort Frances Detachment where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted a 12 step systematic evaluation. After performing poorly on the evaluation, Stephen Baker (38) of Fort Frances has been charged criminally with:

  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance – Drug or Alcohol; and
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Schedule I

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling      1-888-310-1122.
