Life-Threatening Injuries Follow Aggravated Assault on North Syndicate

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Fresh snow is proving to be a great investigative helper for the Thunder Bay Police Service. Police are investigating an aggravated assault that took place at a home on Syndicate Avenue North just after 3:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2020.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to follow footprints in the fresh snow, which led them to two suspects in the assault.

Police followed the footprints and located two male suspects.

Further investigation led officers to discover that a male had been the victim of an assault at the Syndicate Avenue North residence.

The male victim was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment of his life-threatening injuries.

This is now a major case and is being led by investigators from the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit.

Two males, a 14-year-old and 19-year-old, have been charged with Aggravated Assault.

They are expected to appear in bail court today.

UPDATE

Cody ECHUM, 19, of Thunder Bay is charged with Aggravated Assault. A 14-year-old male is also charged with Aggravated Assault.

The identity of the youth accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both accused appeared in bail court on Thursday, Jan. 9. ECHUM was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Jan. 10. The youth was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Jan. 13.
