Thunder Bay – SPORTS – The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team forced a fourth set in their 3-1 loss the Queen’s Gaels at the Thunderdome on Saturday night.
Set scores for the Thunderwolves were 17-25, 16-25, 25-22 and 21-25. Saturday’s game marked the last Thunderwolves game of the first semester.
“A slow start tonight against a very good team,” said head coach Craig Barclay.
“We put ourselves in a position to extend the match even further but had a hard time capitalizing when it mattered most.”
Abigail Almonte led the Thunderwolves attacks with 12 kills on 26 attempts. Gillian Hansen, who has been consistently good for the Wolves all season, finished with seven kills, four aces and two total blocks.
Arielle Palermo found herself leading the Gaels with 17 kills, 11 digs and three aces.
“Overall it was a good night of volleyball against a good team. The break will be nice for us,” said Barclay.
“Good opportunity to rest and prepare for a big second semester.”
