THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have their hands full dealing with gangs and drug dealers from outside of the city.

Following up on the recent arrests for a firearm and drug-related incident, the Thunder Bay Police Service has laid new charges against one of four arrested following a recent disturbance involving a firearm after learning an accused male impersonated Demitri Austin GREEN.

An investigation has revealed the accused male’s real identity is Jatorri WILLIAMS, 19, of Toronto, and he used the identity of GREEN to obstruct police and avoid prosecution of other offences.

Officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Pearl Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 following reports of a disturbance. The disturbance was believed to involve a break-in and a firearm.

Suspects fled the area before police arrived on the scene.

When police arrived they began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this alleged incident.

As a result of the ongoing investigation – which also involved members of the service’s Major Crimes Unit, K9 Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Intelligence Unit – police identified and located suspects connected to the Sunday incident.

Four suspects, who were in a motor vehicle together, were taken into custody following a high-risk arrest in the zero-to-100 block of Lake Street in the early afternoon hours of Monday, October 21, 2019.

Police located a handgun inside the vehicle. During the arrests, one of the male suspects provided a name to police that further investigation revealed to be a false identity. It was not known at this time that WILLIAMS was also providing officers with a false identity.

The four accused appeared in court Tuesday and were remanded into custody at the district jail with future appearance dates.

New charges have now been filed against WILLIAMS:

• Personation with Intent to Avoid Prosecution
• Possession of Firearm/ Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Williams also faces charges resulting from the original incident, which are:

• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Licence

• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm With Ammunition
• Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
