Lifejacket and Wetsuit Help Save Man Overboard on Lake Superior

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue on September 26, 2019, at 16:29 received a call for assistance with a 58-year-old male that had fallen overboard in rough seas approximately 1 to 3 miles offshore from the Floral Beach Area. The individual while out sailing with a friend was hit by a large wave knocking him off the vessel.

The male was wearing a life jacket and wet suit at the time.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the GPS coordinates provided with Harbor Rescue 1 as part of a Mutual Aid Response to assist Shuniah Fire Rescue, Coast Guard, Ambulance and Police Personnel.

The Male individual in question swam to shore prior to emergency personnel arriving at those coordinates. The male suffered no injuries.
