THUNDER BAY – “Bombardier’s decision to make massive lay-offs at its Thunder Bay manufacturing plant is devastating for the workers, their families, the community of Thunder Bay and region. My heart goes out to all those affected by this decision. As the largest private sector employer in Thunder Bay,‎ this is extremely disappointing and must be countered with strong action to ensure that new contracts return the plant to full production levels.

“The Province has a huge role to play in making this happen. With a commitment to ‘make unprecedented investments in public transit in Ontario’, the Ford government can ensure that this happens by working directly with Metrolinx and the TTC, extending the contracts presently in place, and by increasing the Canadian content requirements for Ontario financed transit projects. The Province must play a significant role in dealing with this crisis at the Thunder Bay plant.

“As the MPP for Thunder Bay-Superior North, supported strongly by my Ontario Liberal Caucus colleagues, I will fight to see that Bombardier’s Thunder Bay operation continues to receive transit work that will return it to full operational levels. It is not enough for the Province to express disappointment with Bombardier’s decision today; action must be taken to correct this devastating situation! Nothing else is acceptable”.
