THUNDER BAY – NEWS – At 11:16 am this morning, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to a vehicle which had driven into the Java Hut coffee shop at 465 Memorial Avenue.

Upon arrival, two Pumper/Rescue crews and the Platoon Chief saw that a pickup truck had driven completely into the structure and stopped against the centre counter/cash register.

Firefighters assisted customers out of the building as sharp glass, façade, and brick had been strewn throughout the restaurant.

Firefighters checked all occupants and discovered no serious injuries.

A female driver and two occupants had already exited the vehicle. Approximately 16 patrons were within the establishment at the time, and fortunately, the vehicle took the only path which had an empty table and chairs.

Damage to the building is significant. The accident is currently under investigation.
