OTTAWA – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora Riding), released the following statement regarding the deal reached between Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico to lift steel and aluminum tariffs:
“Today’s announcement about the removal of these unjustified and illegal tariffs is welcome news for steel and aluminum workers, their families, and all affected sectors in the North, as well as right across the country. When the U.S. imposed tariffs, we stood up for our steel and aluminum workers and their families, by immediately implementing dollar-for-dollar retaliatory measures – the strongest retaliation in the world. I am extremely pleased to say that all tariffs will be removed in two days, including Canada’s retaliatory measures which were highly effective in bringing about a settlement.
“This decision reflects what is known to be true by friends on both sides of the border: Canada has been America’s most steadfast ally for more than a hundred years, and our long-standing partnership and closely linked economies make us more competitive around the world and it also works to improve our combined security.
