SHUNIAH – At approximately 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services (SFES) responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Highway 527 near Gibson Road in the Municipality of Shuniah.

First arriving crews reported a fully involved truck fire located on the southbound shoulder. Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down, with the fire being declared extinguished at approximately 8:30 pm. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fifteen SFES firefighters and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the call. All SFES units were back in service at 9:40 pm.

SFES would like to remind the public to remain free of distractions while driving and to slow down – move over when approaching and proceeding through an incident to ensure the safety of emergency personnel
