Ceremonial Face-off starts the Telus Cup at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The ceremonial pucks drop at the 2019 Telus Cup Championships. Respective Captains Ian Watt of Halifax, and Nolan Lowe of Toronto kicked off exciting hockey as the Telus Cup got underway in Thunder Bay.

Then Cameron Brown of Halifax, faced off against Toronto’s Nolan Lowe faces off against Cameron Brown for the real thing.

Despite being outshot 34 to 25, the Halifax Macs of the Atlantic Division defeated the Toronto Young Nationals of the Central Division in game 1 of 15 preliminary matches heading into next weekend.

The 1st period saw 3 penalties assessed against the Macs, but they defended well and the period remained scoreless.

Less than 1 minute into the 2nd frame, Josh Crooks (24) beat James Gray in the Young Nationals net, to take the 1-0 lead.

With just over 1 minute remaining in the 2nd period, Toronto’s Elias Cohen (97) tied the contest at 1.

Josh Crooks would net his 2nd goal of the game just 32 seconds into the 3rd period. This would be the last goal of the game as Halifax takes the tournament opener 2-1 over Toronto.
