FORT FRANCES – Saving the paper mill in Fort Frances is atop the mind of Minister Greg Rickford. The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River states, “I am profoundly disappointed to see Resolute Forest Products reject the offer to buy and reopen the mill.

“My commitment has not changed. This has been a six-year process and I am not ready to give up the fight, and I know the community of Fort Frances is not ready to give up either.”

Earlier today the Mayor of Fort Frances received a letter from Resolute stating that the company will not sell the mill.

Rickford states, “I believe the paper mill is viable, and I know the community will continue to explore options that would see the mill open again. Our government has supported the opening of this mill, and I will continue to support finding a buyer that will bring jobs back to Fort Frances. And I still believe there is an opportunity to work with Rainy River Packaging (formerly Repap).”

“I will always support the Town of Fort Frances and the reopening of the paper mill,” concludes Rickford.
