Extreme Cold Warning for Washaho Cree Nation and Peawanuck First Nation

FORT SEVERN – WEATHER – There are Extreme Cold Warnings in effect for the Far North of Ontario including Fort Severn and Peawanuck.

The entire region has been weather alert and warning free for a week. However the Arctic low hitting the far north has ended that mid-winter respite.

For Fort Severn / Washaho Cree Nation, Environment Canada is calling for a 30 percent chance of flurries overnight. Winds will be northwest 30 km/h. The overnight low will be minus 32. The wind chill will be minus 35 in the evening and minus 46 overnight.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Fort Severn
  • Peawanuck

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Wind chill values near minus 45 are expected tonight.

Wind chill values will moderate somewhat during the day on Monday but will lower again to near minus 45 Monday night.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
