Wind Chill of -48c Forecast for Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Environment Canada has forecast what could be the coldest wind chill temperatures for Thunder Bay overnight. Let us hope that Environment Canada is wrong, the weather service is calling for a wind chill value of -48c for the morning in Thunder Bay.

The Extreme Cold Warning continues. The weather service is calling for a mix of sun and cloud for Monday. The winds will be up to 15 km/h. Monday’s high should be minus 21. The wind chill is forecast for minus 48 in the morning and minus 28 in the afternoon.

If the forecasted wind chill is reached, then it is very likely that school buses will not be running in the morning. That will impact students.

The schedule for School Buses, if they are running in the morning, is that they will depart St. Ignatius & St. Patrick at 11:00 am and La Vérendrye at 11:15 am on exam days. School Buses will depart Hammarskjöld, Superior and Westgate at their regularly scheduled times.

UPDATE – 

In accordance with Student Transportation Services Thunder Bay Procedures, if the temperature including wind chill is -40 or below at 6:00 a.m., buses will not run in the morning. If the temperature rises above -40 during the day, buses will make the afternoon run.

Elementary Schools
If this were to occur on Monday, January 28, 2019 all schools, including rural elementary schools will remain OPEN. Parents and guardians will be responsible for transporting students to and from school if buses are unable to make the afternoon run.

Secondary Schools
If buses are cancelled due to cold weather on Monday, January 28, secondary schools will stay open. However, all exams scheduled for Monday, January 28 will be rescheduled to Wednesday January, 30, 2019.

If the temperature rises above -40 during the day, buses will make the afternoon run. If the buses are unable to run, parents and guardians are responsible for transportation to and from school.  lakeheadschools.ca

For Landsdowne House, the forecast is calling for a high on Monday of minus 29. The wind chill is forecast for minus 56 in the morning and minus 38 in the afternoon.
