Winter storm warning in effect for:

City of Thunder Bay

Winter storm continues this morning.

Snow, heavy at times, continues this morning but will become light late this morning before coming to an end this afternoon.

Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are likely by this afternoon. Strong southeast winds gusting up to 60 km/h will combine with the freshly fallen snow to produce local blowing snow.

The worst conditions are most likely for the first half of this morning. Snowfall rates of several centimetres per hour are
possible.

The low-pressure area responsible for the snow and blowing snow will move to the east of the Lakehead area this afternoon, bringing the winter storm to an end.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

School bus service for Monday, January 7th has been CANCELLED for Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Red Lake, Ear Falls, Vermilion Bay, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, and Upsala due to winter storm systems affecting the area and resulting road conditions. Schools remain open.
