Up to Twenty Centimetres of Snow Forecast

FORT FRANCES – SEINE RIVER – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for the Seine River – Fort Frances region. The winter storm headed toward Northwestern Ontario is forecast to drop up to twenty centimetres of snow on the region starting Sunday evening and continuing into Monday morning.

11:16 AM EST Sunday 06 January 2019
Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Fort Frances – Emo – Rainy River
  • Seine River Village – Mine Centre

Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

Snow will begin this evening and become heavier overnight. Snow will continue for much of the day Monday before ending Monday afternoon or evening.

Total snowfall amounts near 15 to 20 cm are possible by the time the snow ends Monday evening. At this point, it appears that the worst conditions are most likely Monday morning. Snowfall rates of several centimetres per hour are possible.

This snow is the result of a developing low-pressure system that is expected to track over Northwestern Ontario on Monday.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
