ATTAWAPISKAT – WEATHER – Extreme cold has settled in the far north of Ontario. The Extreme Weather Warnings have expanded.

Manitoba is also under Extreme Cold Warnings as well.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Attawapiskat
  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake
  • Webequie
  • Fort Seven – Washaho Cree Nation
  • Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake
  • Summer Beaver – Wunnummin Lake – Kingfisher Lake

Wind chill values of minus 45 to minus 50 will continue this morning.

This pattern of extreme cold wind chill values during the overnight and morning hours could recur daily for the next few days across northern portions of Northern Ontario.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
