THUNDER BAY – LIVING – Cindy Lou Luhtala of Thunder Bay had great reason to celebrate this afternoon with a special surprise right before the holidays. Today, at Intercity Shopping Centre, she was announced as the winner of $17,305 in this year’s sold-out Intercity Shopping Centre 50/50 Cash Draw (Ticket No. 8774). Altogether, 10,000 tickets were sold.

This was the 19th year of the Intercity Shopping Centre 50/50 Cash Draw. Altogether, the draw has raised $214,377 – all to support world-class patient and family centred care for the people of our community. Funds from this year’s draw ($17,305) will support the Northern Cardiac Fund to provide better cardiac care to residents of our community.

Specifically, with the funds raised from this Cash Draw, ticket buyers have ensured that we have better cardiac care, now and into the future. Currently, we have two Catheterization Labs open 24/7 to serve patients with the gold standard of care – angioplasty – for heart attacks. Additionally, we are looking to the future where we will have a full cardiovascular surgery program, right here at home. Support of the Intercity Shopping Centre 50/50 Cash Draw means that vital medical equipment can be purchased so these programs are available for our families and friends. The gift of life-saving care is truly what’s been given this season.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and Intercity Shopping Centre wish to thank all who took the time to purchase tickets this year, and to thank the multiple volunteers who made this draw possible once again.
