canine calendarFORT FRANCES  – The Rainy River District of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to inform the public that the 2019 Canine Unit Calendar is available for purchase at the Rainy River District OPP detachment in Fort Frances. The calendar showcases beautiful photographs of service dogs from across the province.

The OPP Canine Unit was formed in 1965, at which time only three teams were trained to provide support services to all of the OPP and other law enforcement agencies across the province. There are currently 28 teams, each team consisting of a dog and a handler. There are also an additional 16 dogs trained for specific detection duties. Each team is stationed at strategic points throughout the province, providing canine support for search and rescue, tracking wanted persons, detecting narcotics, searching for cadavers, as well as firearms, explosives and physical evidence. If you would like more information about the OPP Canine Unit, please visit our website at www.OPP.ca.

The cost of the calendar is $10.00 and the proceeds from the calendars are used to support the OPP Friends of the Museum and the OPP Youth Foundation. The OPP Youth Foundation works to help children grow and succeed, through a range of programs designed to build self-esteem and vital life skills including Youth Summer Camps, Youth Development Fund, and Post-Secondary Education Assistance Program. Friends of The OPP Museum is a volunteer registered charitable organization that is dedicated to supporting and promoting the history of the Ontario Provincial Police and The OPP Museum through outreach, special events and fundraising activities.

If you would like to purchase a calendar, you may attend the detachment in person or contact Canine Handler Provincial Constable MARTIN directly via email at: Adam.Martin@OPP.ca.
