THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A fire investigation is underway to determine the origin and cause of a fire at 11 Walkover Street which sent one person to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. That individual later passed away from injuries. The fire investigation is being conducted by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue with an investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Fire crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the residence on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.

They arrived to find a smoke-filled home, and upon entry, found a serious, but extinguished, fire and an unresponsive victim.

Resuscitation efforts began at the scene, and the patient was then transported to TBRHSC by paramedics.

While the cause of this fire is yet to be determined, Deputy Chief Greg Hankkio had this to say: “The home was equipped with smoke alarms, but unfortunately at least one of them was not working.”

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the Office of the Fire Marshal remain on the scene conducting an investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of this fire.
